Hyperpigmentation & Uneven Skin Tone

What is hyperpigmentation?

Hyperpigmentation is a common skin concern where certain areas become darker than the surrounding skin due to excess melanin production.

It may appear as:

  • Sun spots or age spots
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Dark marks following acne
  • Pigmented patches on the face or body

One particular type of pigmentation, known as melasma, is triggered by hormones and commonly develops during pregnancy or whilst taking hormonal contraception. Melasma often appears as symmetrical brown patches across the cheeks, forehead or upper lip.

Although pigmentation is harmless, it can take months or even years to fade without treatment.

Treatments for hyperpigmentation

The most suitable treatment depends on the underlying cause of the pigmentation.

Recommended treatments include:

  • AlumierMD Chemical Peels – to gently brighten the complexion and reduce pigmentation.
  • Lumecca IPL – highly effective for sun damage, freckles and age spots.
  • Medical-grade skincare – to inhibit excess pigment production and maintain results.

Please note: Lumecca IPL is not suitable for melasma, as heat can worsen this condition.
